Mikhail Prokhorov was serious last year when he said he thought the Spurs were the model franchise. The San Antonio Express-News reports Tuesday that before hiring Billy King, the Nets asked for permission to talk with R.C. Buford, architect of the Spurs' decade-long success. Buford declined. The Express writes that "Buford had no intention of going to New Jersey; working between Avery Johnson and a Russian billionaire likely had little appeal".
King and the Cavaliers former GM Danny Ferry were finalists to replace Rod Thorn.
