Sasha Vujacic had a typical night off the bench for the Nets vs. the Knicks, with 15 points on 5-for-9 shooting including 2-for-5 from deep plus four assists and two steals. The ex-Laker is averaging 11.4 ppg and hitting nearly 40% beyond the arc for the Nets. If the team wasn't so bad, he'd have a legit shot at Sixth Man of the Year.
But it was something he said after he scored a career-high 25 points vs. the Hornets on Friday that has cast him in the familiar role as target for bloggers. Here it is: "I know I can score 20 or 30 points anytime I want. But I’m not that kind of a guy. I want to win. I want to play the right way."
Ball Don't Lie, Basketball Jones and BallinEurope have taken him to task for his "overconfidence", with BiE saying it "might become the most outrageous basketball-related quote of 2010-11 behind 'I’m gonna take my talents to South Beach'." Of course, Vujacic is averaging 17 ppg on 55% shooting overall and 47% from downtown over the last three...so his comment isn't that outrageous.
