In an updated version of his story on the collapse of the Dwight Howard talks, Adrian Wojnarowski writes that Dwight Howard has warned the Magic that unless they trade him, they will lose him for nothing, in effect reminding the franchise of what happened 15 years ago when Shaquille O'Neal left Orlando without compensation.
"Howard has warned the Magic if they don’t move him by the March 15 trade deadline, they’ll lose him for nothing in free agency," wrote Woj. "Howard told the Magic again on Wednesday that he wanted a trade, a league source said". Woj quoted a source as saying, "Dwight’s not a happy camper."
Apparently, the Nets offer was rejected by Magic ownership.
Woj also added details on the Nets offer. New Jersey would have sent Brook Lopez, Gerald Wallace, Jordan Farmar and a first-round draft pick to Orlando. The Nets also would have taken on Chris Duhon and Hedo Turkoglu. The Blazers would have received four draft picks for Wallace. Sam Amick said that Johan Petro was also headed for Orlando.
While the Nets and Magic could open talks again, time is of the essence. The Nets must starting adding to their roster...and their cap space...in the next few days and make a decision on waiving Travis Outlaw. Already, Ken Berger tweets, the Nets have begun talking to Kris Humphries.
