Dr. Vernon Baker remembers going to the old Teaneck Armory in the Nets' inaugural season, 1967-68, when they were known as the New Jersey Americans. Now 90, Baker is among the first to sign up for season tickets in 2012-13, this time in Brooklyn where he'll sit behind the bench as he has for 20 years in New Jersey.
Baker received a surprise visit from Bobby Marks on Tuesday to celebrate his 90th birthday. Marks, a "Nets lifer" himself going from intern to assistant GM, said, "It was a privilege to sit down with Dr. Baker today to share Nets stories as well as celebrate his 90th birthday."
