The Nuggets had high hopes that playing with a newly healthy Nugget team would entice Carmelo Anthony to sign an extension. Both Kenyon Martin and Chris Andersen are back. No luck. David Aldridge reports deep in his weekly column that Anthony "just, again, told the Nuggets last week that he had no intention of re-signing in Denver, according to a source."
Aldridge also reports that 'Melo wants to be a part of "a combo of superstars like Miami put together to play alongside for the next few years." As currently constituted, the Nets would not meet that description and team insiders fear if they gave Denver everything it wants, the Nets wouldn't have the assets needed to attract other stars.
