The end (or the hiatus) in trade discussions is a relief for Troy Murphy, whose name was mentioned both at the beginning and the end of the talks. Now, the 6'11" stat-stuffing power forward can focus on playing basketball in front of the hometown crowd.
"I'm looking forward to playing here," he told the Daily Record of Morristown, not far from where he grew up in Sparta. His father still lives in Sparta. He has an apartment in Manhattan and he has taken the time to visit Morris County on occasion, most recently this summer to help out with an old friend's basketball camp.
Murphy has an interesting take on the Nets' preseason, noting that the team's round the world trip is likely to help chemistry.
"A lot of the time in training camp after practice, everybody goes their separate ways," he said. "We're going to be in China together and we're going to grow as a group there."
