As first reported by Marc J. Spears, the Nets have signed swingman Stephen Graham, the team announced Wednesday afternoon. It's a two-year, $2.1 million vets minimum deal, his agent told Spears. A Nets' insider says the first year is partially guaranteed and the second is a team option but he pointedly called it "more than a training camp invite".
Graham, 6'6" and a muscular 215 pounds, can play both swing positions. He's 28 years old. The twin brother of Joey Graham, Stephen averaged 4.2 ppg and 1.9 rpg in 11 minutes a game last season for Charlotte. A defensive stalwart and a favorite of Larry Brown, he had his best year with the Bobcats.
The Nets have 13 guaranteed contracts, with three others, Graham, Brian Zoubek and Ben Uzoh partially guaranteed. Of the 16 players under contract, only four played for the team last season. Billy King also announced the hiring of Robby Hoenshel as an assistant athletic trainer and director of sports rehabilitation. With Hoenshel's hiring, the Nets will be able to bring player rehabilitation in-house, something the training staff prefers.
