For Avery Johnson and his assistants, community service is as important as it is to some of his players.

Johnson will use his motivational speaking skills to welcome students "Back to School" at the Burnet Street School Newark in the morning and and M.S. 51 in Brooklyn later Thursday.

The Nets Dancers and Sly will join  him.  Johnson and the Nets will provide students with backpacks filled with school supplies.

Larry Krystkowiak, and his wife, Jan, are getting attention in San Diego for their charity work.  For years, with her advertising background and husband Krystkowiak's basketball connections, the couple have raised thousands of dollars for charities. In January, shortly after the earthquake in Haiti, she traveled to that devastated country, spending 10 days helping where they could.
