Avery Johnson was back in his home state of Louisiana this week to run a clinic and watch the NFL team that gave him a Super Bowl ring. He might have been there to coach the Hornets, too, if the New Orleans ownership had given him the dual job of head coach and general manager.
He didn't got the GM job in New Jersey but he did get an owner who's committed to winning. He tells the New Orleans Times-Picayune how important Mikhail Prokhorov's passion for the game is to him.
"I like the excitement of the unknown," he tells John Reid. "It’s a challenge, and I’ve always accepted challenges. I accepted it in Dallas. We had a good team, but it wasn’t a great team. We’ll get time here.’’
