Ric Bucher on ESPN and Chris Dempsey in the Denver Post are reporting increasing signals that Carmelo Anthony wants to leave the Nuggets. Where does he want to play, Bucher was asked. New York is "attractive" says Bucher, but "more than anything, it's not in Denver." Dempsey points out that Anthony has put his house in suburban Denver up for sale and is telling friends he wants to play for the Knicks.
But it may not be Anthony's choice. Nugget owner Stan Kroenke has a number of options, including trade him now, arrange for a sign-and-trade based on that three-year $65 million offer, or do nothing til July. But that last option could put him in the same position owners in Cleveland and Toronto now face.
The Nets, of course, have been interested before and have the requisite draft picks, young players, expiring contracts and cash. It would be more difficult, but not impossible, for the Knicks.
