The Nets, who asked to be included in the London Games, will sacrifice two home games as a result but officials see the opportunity for global branding worth the loss. “We are encouraging the league to look at us a little differently now that we have new ownership in [Mikhail] Prokhorov," said Brett Yormark.
The Nets won't lose out completely, reports Sports Business Journal. The league will give the team an undisclosed financial guarantee roughly equivalent to what the Nets would typically generate for two home games. Season ticket holders will be compensated in other ways: additional tickets to other games, a refund, or additional tickets to a "meet and greet" event with Nets players.
Yormark says the team plans to offer travel packages as an incentive for new sponsors and for premium season-ticket holders who renew early for the 2011-12 season. The NBA expects to sponsor a number of events in the British capital and has unspecified broadcast plans. The Nets and Raptors play back-to-back games March 4 and 5.
