If James Dolan doesn't yet know he's in a fight with Mikhail Prokhorov for the hearts and minds of New York basketball fans, he will be by Thursday. That's when a 225' x 95' billboard featuring images of the Nets' new owner and Jay-Z intertwined with the words, "Blueprint for Greatness", will be completed...at the corner of 34th and 8th...overlooking Madison Square Garden!
(Pause here for audible gasp)
"That billboard is the anchor to an aggressive marketing platform for key transit hubs from Manhattan to Newark," said Brett Yormark, offering the most benign explanation of something that's hardly benign. As the boss said last month, "I have only one secret. We’re going to turn Knicks fans into Nets fans. It’s a part of success."
Or as he said in a statement Tuesday about the billboard, "Jay-Z and I both understand that success takes vision and big thinking. We want everyone to know just how high we are aiming for the future of the Nets."
