Do The Nets Want Johnson at #3, Or Do They Just Want to Do a Deal?

It's been a confusing afternoon.

Chad Ford tweeted Monday night that the Nets choice between Derrick Favors and DeMarcus Cousins is a "toss-up" but in his latest mock draft, he switches gears and sees Wesley Johnson going to New Jersey.

Ford wrote that "after his workout for the Nets on Monday, Favors has fallen behind Johnson on their board, according to sources close to the situation."

"The Nets have needs at both the 3 and the 4 and feel they'll be able to land an elite big man, like Carlos Boozer or Amare Stoudemire, through free agency," he explains, adding, "They believe Johnson can come in and immediately start at the 3 for them."

Just before noon, Ford posted his latest mock draft showing Favors at #3, then 90 minutes later revised it to show Johnson "in the lead".

Jonathan Givony, in previewing Draft Express' upcoming mock draft, also says the Nets are going with Johnson.

"Wesley Johnson is moving up to 3, New Jersey, on our next mock coming shortly," Givony tweets. "Told New Jersey will take him and go for a PF in free agency."

Then, after the two mocks went live, Adrian Wojnarowski tweeted that the Nets may just be pushing the Timberwolves into a deal for Johnson.  "If Minny wants its man at No 4, sources say NJ will make Minny pay with picks."  Minnesota GM David Kahn told local media it's "highly unlikely" the Wolves will move up or down in the draft.
