The draft is seven weeks from Thursday night. In the meantime, players will rise and fall in mock drafts and on the Nets' own closely held draft board. Rod Thorn, Kiki Vandeweghe, and scouts led by Gregg Polinsky have already seen a lot of the prospects, most of the good ones many times. Now comes the workouts.
Draftniks who put together mock drafts don't have access to team draft boards and between now and June 24, a lot of poker will be played by front offices, agents and the media to figure out who's doing what. But there are three players who draftniks like for the Nets. Everyone thinks it's a no-brainer that the Nets will pick 6'4" Kentucky point guard John Wall if they win the lottery. Chad Ford adds, "although they like [Devin] Harris, they love Wall".
As for #27 and #31, a survey of four mocks suggests Oklahoma's 6'4" swingman Willie Warren and Georgia Tech's 6'9" power forward Gani Lawal will be taken in those slots. ESPN likes Mississippi shooting guard Terrico White at #27 and UConn small forward Stanley Robinson at #31. Draft Express thinks the Nets will take Warren and Lawal in that order; NBADraft.net thinks it's West Virginia small forward Devin Ebanks and Warren. SB Nation's Ridiculous Upside thinks it's Texas swingman Damion Jones and Lawal.
