The Afternoon Update: Melo and Murph

Things are clearly heating up on the Carmelo Anthony front, but there's still no indication that a deal is close. One source tells Fred Kerber that he believes a deal will happen by the end of the month, but another isn't so sure.

The Nets may be in competition with contenders willing to rent Anthony and they may be acquiring more Nuggets in a deal. The latest news of further talks has reached the Nets in Memphis, but Devin Harris says nobody's stressing it.

Meanwhile, Avery Johnson says that Troy Murphy has earned more playing time, with Derrick Favors playing some minutes at center. "He’s practiced hard, been a true professional, a great example of work ethic for our players," Johnson said of Murphy. "He can’t beat me to the gym, but boy he gets there right after me."
