As Daniel Goldstein's condominium went down Saturday, a group of 12 people led by Mikhail Prokhorov watched quietly from a nearby vantage point. The condo was the last building in the footprint of Barclays Center.
With its demolition, Nets officials say construction at the site will now accelerate. The $900 million arena remains on time and on budget for a mid-2012 completion.
After spending about 20 minutes looking at the site and the construction plans, Prokhorov and the group went to lunch at the nearby Peter Luger steakhouse, where they dined on porterhouse, creamed spinach and cheesecake for dessert. There must have been some champagne too.
