Uzoh Gets Read Into Avery

What was the first thing Ben Uzoh did after signing with the Nets in July?  He read “Aspire Higher,” the biography Avery Johnson authored with sports journalist Roy S. Johnson in early 2008. Apparently it worked because the four-year guard out of Tulsa made the roster, although he was in street clothes Tuesday.

“I wanted to get to know Coach Johnson; know a little bit more about him. I knew his journey had been tough. He was undrafted and had to do it the hard way, and I knew I had to follow the same path he did,” said Uzoh, the Nets' third string point guard and third youngest player (after Derrick Favors and Brook Lopez).
