Game 1 - Nets vs. Pistons - Wednesday, October 27, 7:00

The players are pumped up. The coach is fired up. The arena's spruced up and the owner's Gulfstream is revved up. The only thing that's not "up" is expectations...and that may be strategic.  Still, Wednesday's game is what everything's been about since April, when the team owner was Bruce Ratner, the general manager was Rod Thorn, the coach Kiki Vandeweghe and the games were at the IZOD. On the other hand, no John Wall, no LeBron James ...and so far... no Carmelo Anthony.  No problem?  We'll find out soon enough.

In an interview on WFAN Wednesday morning, Avery Johnson announced Devin Harris has been voted captain and Brook Lopez co-captain.

The Nets first opponent, the Pistons, haven't had a good preseason.  Their best rookie from last season, Jonas Jerebko, is likely out for the season and this year's rookie, Greg Monroe, has yet to dazzle.  Joe Dumars' attempts to revise and rebuild an older roster haven't worked out and the prospect of a new owner, after decades under the Davidson family, could mean big change.  The Pistons still have some horses: Rip Hamilton, Tayshaun Prince, Charlie Villanueva and the always dangerous Ben Gordon.  They also have Austin Daye, who seems to have found a place at power forward.
