Amar'e Dominant as Knicks Hold Off Nets Down the Stretch

The Nets dropped their third straight preseason game, falling 117-111 to the Knicks at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night. The Knicks ended the second quarter on a 17-2 run and took a 16-point lead into the half, but the Nets' second unit led them all the way back in the third. The teams exchanged leads in the fourth before New York took control late. Toney Douglas hit the dagger with 35 seconds left.

The Nets outrebounded the Knicks 52-34, but committed 23 turnovers and allowed New York to get to the line 43 times. Amar'e Stoudemire had 19 of those free throws and led all scorers with 39 points. He also had 11 rebounds and two blocked shots in 37 minutes.

Jordan Farmar led the Nets with 21 points and five assists, while Brook Lopez added 19 points and eight rebounds. Derrick Favors picked up three fouls in less than two minutes in the first half, but finished with 12 points and seven boards in 19 total minutes before fouling out.
