Summer Vacations? Hardly

New, comment

They all expect to be back in New Jersey for informal workouts in August. Some will, some won't. But the Nets right now are scattered in gyms around the country...and beyond.

Here's an incomplete summary of who's doing what, drawn from multiple sources, but mostly Ben Couch's end-of-season profiles.

Vince Carter - working out at his private gym near Orlando, raising money for his charities--including the Vince Carter Sanctuary, attending playoff games, getting reacquainted with his daughter. "We play with our two dogs, spend time at the parks, go bowling, read books, color, and just about anything else that makes us smile." Will serve as honorary pace car driver at Coke Zero 400 in Daytona Beach July 4.

Devin Harris - On European vacation, after serving as an instructor at the Adidas Nations Camp in Beijing, working out with Tim Grover at ATTACK Athletics in Chicago, has accepted an invite to Team USA summer camp in Las Vegas July 22-24.

Brook Lopez - After serving as an instructor at the Adidas Nations Camp in Beijing, he's working out with personal trainer in Fresno. Committed to playing in Orlando Summer League in early July, he's also reported to have an invite to Team USA summer camp late that month.

Yi Jianlian - working out with personal trainer Joe Abunassar of Impact Basketball in Los Angeles after visiting parents in China, then back to Nets' training facility before joining Team China in Tianjin for FIBA Asia Games August 6-16.

Bobby Simmons - working out in ATTACK Athletics in Chicago...for the eighth straight summer. "I wasn’t planning on taking a vacation," Simmons said.

Ryan Anderson - backpacking and hiking with his father in the Grand Canyon, then working out with personal trainer Gus Armstead at 2theHoop in Sacramento.

Keyon Dooling - recuperating in Florida from hip surgery. Expects to be back for training camp.

Eduardo Najera - recuperating in Mexico from March 13 sports hernia surgery. "Right now it’s work, therapy and strengthening abdominal muscles," Najera told AP this month. "In July, I will do field exercises, and in August, I hope to be free to do whatever they want."

Josh Boone - working out with personal trainer in New York on "offensive stuff"..."there really isn’t anybody else around here. I live in Jersey now and I kind of stay here and everybody else goes home."

Chris Douglas-Roberts - working out with trainer Jerry Powell at Basketball Results in North Babylon, Long Island as well as at the Nets training facility, tweeting non-stop on twitter, committed to playing in Orlando Summer League.

Jarvis Hayes - after resting and rehabbing torn thumb ligament, pilates training--and some long postponed college study at the University of Georgia, then working out with personal trainer in Atlanta. Getting acquainted with his newborn son, showing off his new Rolls-Royce.

Sean Williams - working out with Chris Bosh and his trainer in Dallas, undergoing anger management counseling, pursuing his degree at Boston College and working with disadvantaged youth.

Maurice Ager - working out at Bosh's training facility in Dallas along with Williams. Becomes unrestricted free agent on July 1.

Trenton Hassell - Still no word, and we still aren't worried. Normally returns home to Clarksville, TN.
