Nets Give Celtics a Scare, but Can't Finish Them Off

The Nets are now 0-7 against the Celtics since they acquired Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen, but unlike the first six, Wednesday night's game at the IZOD Center was actually close. It was a two-point game midway through the third quarter when the Celtics opened it up with a 7-0 run. They led by as many as 13 early in the fourth, but the Nets made a run and Devin Harris tied the game with a three-point play with 2:26 to go. Vince Carter put them up three with 1:14 to go, but Ray Allen answered with a three of his own nine seconds later. After Harris missed in the lane, Paul Pierce put the Celtics up two with 21 seconds left. Vince Carter then missed on a drive and Ray Allen sealed the game at the line. The Celtics shot 61 percent from the field for the game, led by Pierce's 31 points on 12-14 shooting. Carter led the Nets with 34 points, and Harris added 25 points and 11 assists. With the Bucks losing in Cleveland, the Nets remain just 1/2 game behind Milwaukee for eighth place in the East.
