Basketball Writers Discuss Hot-Button Issues Facing League (Excerpt)

Q: What do you think will be the long-term impact of Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov investing in the Nets?

TrueHoop's Henry Abbott: The Nets, in New Jersey, don't help the NBA's bottom line much. Even when they made the Finals they failed to capture the imagination of the Garden State. Brooklyn, however, is one of America's largest cities all by itself, it's a hotbed of basketball, and it's a borough that has been crying out for its own sports identity since the Dodgers left in 1957. If Prokhorov can get approved as an owner, and the Brooklyn stadium becomes a reality, one of the NBA's least successful franchises could leap to the front of the class.
