Nets Hang With Spurs, But Can't Finish

New, comments

The Nets played well in San Antonio on Friday night, but couldn't get the bucket they needed down the stretch and lost their fifth straight game. The Nets had a 13-0 run in the second quarter and led by six at halftime. Another rough third period put them down six going into the fourth, but they stayed in it and had opportunities to take the lead in the final minutes. Keyon Dooling missed two potential go-ahead jumpers badly though, and Michael Finley hit a three to put the Spurs up four with 22 seconds to go. Brook Lopez then missed a layup on the other end and the Spurs finished the Nets off at the foul line. Devin Harris, who had listed as day-to-day with rib bruises, and Vince Carter combined for 53 points for the Nets, while Brook Lopez added 15 points and eight rebounds. Tim Duncan led the Spurs with 30 points, 15 boards, five assists and four blocks. The Nets turned the ball over only five times, but shot just 43 percent from the field.
