Why Can't the NBA Make a Buck?

Buck Williams' uniform jersey hangs from the rafters of the IZOD Center, a tribute to his ruggedness and integrity. Yet those qualities displayed over a 17-year career are not enough to get Williams a management role in the NBA. Harvey Araton of the Times suggests that while mid-level white NBA players seem to get the jobs, blacks without Hall of Fame credentials don't. Araton suggests that if the Knicks are looking for a new GM, they should talk to Williams.
