The Nets would be looking at an entirely different team today if Jason Kidd hadn't publicly demanded a trade. Several news organizations are reporting that Rod Thorn had a deal in place with Portland that would have sent Raef LaFrentz and Jarrett Jack to New Jersey, only to have Portland back away when Kidd told Ric Bucher he wanted out. Among the other pieces that would have fallen to the Nets: the Blazers' rights to Spanish star Rudy Fernandez. The Nets are happy things worked out with Dallas.
