Brooklyn: Why the Nets Aren't the Dodgers

In a lengthy examination of the myth of the Brooklyn Dodgers, New York Magazine writer Sam Anderson says Bruce Ratner has skillfully manipulated the memory of the (mostly) hapless baseball team to win favor for his plans to turn a rail yard and neighboring residences into a megadevelopment anchored by a new Nets' arena. The Nets, he writes, are "a squad of mercenaries paid to sell the neighborhood’s new regime."
