Bruce Ratner has apologized for not signing Kenyon Martin in 2004. Rod Thorn has said the team has never replaced Kmart after he left for Denver. But Sean Deveney of the Sporting News now suggests that "there were whispers that the Nets knew he was damaged goods" in 2004. Martin did miss 17 games due to knee problems in 2003-04. Deveney calls Martin's $92.5 million contract the worst in the NBA.
