A Draft Night...and a Player...to Forget

The Record's Ian O'Connor writes of Draft Night 1996, when the Nets passed on taking a precocious 17-year-old from Philadelphia. O'Connor provides more details in the oft-told tale and suggests Kobe Bryant's duplicity then should be a warning to anyone wanting to trust him now. O'Connor also uses the column to suggest the Nets would be willing to take him, but that the Lakers, as well as most of the league, aren't interested in Vince Carter.
