Nets Win Another Thriller Over Wizards

The Nets drew within two games of the sixth seeded Wizards by coming back from five down with less than two minutes to go in Washington Tuesday night. The game was tight throughout the fourth quarter, but Washington went on an 8-2 run to take an 89-84 lead when the Nets committed three turnovers in four possessions. But a Vince Carter jumper in the lane and three straight fast-break baskets (a Richard Jefferson layup, a Jason Kidd tip off an RJ miss and a Carter dunk) off of three quality defensive possessions put the Nets back up by three with 12 seconds on the clock. The Nets then fouled to keep Washington from getting a game-tying shot off in the final seconds like they did on Saturday. Jefferson led all scorers with a season-high 35 points on 13-of-19 from the floor, while Carter added 31 (14 in the fourth), breaking his own Nets single season scoring record. Kidd grabbed 14 boards to give him a career high in rebounds and dished out 11 assists. With Indiana's loss in Philadelphia, the Nets' magic number to clinch a playoff spot is just two.
