Nets Fall Short in Detroit

The Nets were right there with the best team in the Eastern Conference in their own building Friday night. In fact, the Nets led by 10 late in the third quarter. But the Pistons climbed back and got three key baskets down the stretch to take a six-point lead in the final minute. Still, the Nets were down three with a chance to tie with 10 seconds to go, but Vince Carter rushed his three-point attempt and Detroit sealed the game at the line. The Nets shot 51 percent from the field and outrebounded the Pistons 43-36, but Detroit outscored them by 11 points at the free throw line, where the Nets made just 15 of their 23 attempts. Carter led the Nets with 27 points, but shot just 9-of-25 from the field. Josh Boone had his third straight big game off the bench with 17 points and six boards. The Nets fell back into the eighth spot in the East, but they're still two games ahead of both Indiana and New York.
