Demolition crews moved in this morning to begin the six-month job of tearing down the largest building on the site of the Nets' new Brooklyn arena. Critics were on hand to protest the takedown of the long abandoned Ward Bakery, claiming it was an architectural treasure. But the bakery has never been designated a landmark and Bruce Ratner owns it and has city and state approvals for the arena, set to open sometime in the 2009-10 season.
