Barclays Hints It May Sue Over Slavery Charge

Barclays Bank has sent letters to a newspaper and website, demanding they retract stories that the bank profited from the 18th century slave trade. A demand for retraction often precedes a libel suit. The Brooklyn Paper and Atlantic Yards Report revisited their original stories, but declined to retract them. The two have been among the leaders in opposing the Nets' arena to be called the Barclays Center as part of a naming rights deal. Meanwhile, the opponents' own lawsuits go to court this week.
