So, having the site go down right around 3 p.m. on trade deadline day is not exactly ideal...
Unfortunately, the extra traffic caused the site to overload the server, forcing our host to shut our site down in order to protect their other clients. We apologize for the inconvenience and we're doing our best to make sure it doesn't happen again.
One of the reasons for the overload is likely the amount of times the database is called on the homepage. Each story, each corresponding link, each image and each of the links on the left hand side of the homepage is data called from the main database.
In order to alleviate this problem a bit, we've reduced the number of news items on the homepage from nine to six. These are the six most recent news items we have generated. You may have noticed this when the site went back up this afternoon.
At the bottom of the homepage, you will now find a link to "More News", which links to this page, which contains the 12 most recent news items, without the pictures and without the links on the left. So, if it has been a couple of days since you have visited the site (first, you're not a true Nets fan ;)), this will allow you to catch up a little more than the homepage will.
There are occasions when we'll bump a story up in order to make sure it's at the top of the page or that it stays on the homepage, but in general, everything is chronological.
As always, you have the By Date and By Player archives as well.
Again, we apologize for the inconvenience of the downtime, we hope you continue to visit us daily and we welcome any questions, comments or suggestions. Feel free to comment below, or send us an email.
