Decision to Draft Williams Ended Planinic's Nets Career

In a Spanish newspaper interview, Zoran Planinic says he saw the end of his Net career the night the team drafted Marcus Williams. Shortly afterwards, Planinic called Rod Thorn to discuss getting out of his contract. The Nets, he said, agreed, even waiving a buyout clause. Planinic also talked about how much he learned from Jason Kidd, how he lacked maturity when he arrived in New Jersey, and the difficulty of living up to the myth of Drazen Petrovic both as a Croatian and a Net.
