Bruce Ratner's plan for a new Nets arena amid a Brooklyn mini-city got a big boost Sunday when the New York Times endorsed the project--"with a few caveats"--in an editorial. Ratner was lauded for bringing professional sports back to Brooklyn, for engaging the community and for planning an inventory of affordable housing. The Times, in both its editorial and a news article, worried about density--"vertical sprawl"--packing too many people in too small a space.
