When Bruce Ratner's biggest fan criticized certain aspects of the Net owner's plans Wednesday, observers saw the first hint of a compromise that could speed up approval of the $4.2 billion project. Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, who first suggested Ratner buy the Nets, wants the project downsized. Ratner has thus far resisted, but might have a hard time giving Markowitz a hard "No". Meanwhile, the Nets have begun hiring people to market the arena, due to open in 2009.
