Brooklyn's Culture Wars Move to a Different Arena

Jonathan Lethem is a novelist and essayist who lives in the shadow of Bruce Ratner's planned Nets arena and mini-city. While other critics have confined themselves to weblogs and concerts held by tot rockers, Lethem wants to move the debate on to the national stage by writing an open letter to Frank Gehry, Ratner's architect. He chose to write in Slate, the online political/cultural journal. Lethem makes the same arguments others have made about the project's scale and how it would change Brooklyn.
