The Death that Changed the NBA

Rod Thorn and others talk about how the cocaine overdose of Len Bias 20 years ago this week--and other drug problems in that same draft--changed the way NBA executives evaluate talent. The overdose led more teams to institute background checks on players they were about to draft, something few did beforehand. Bottom line: the league now addresses drug problems in a most stern--and Stern--manner.
