Thorn: Picking Best Available Player Still Makes Sense

Rod Thorn made the best draft pick in NBA history. As Bulls GM in 1984, Thorn took Michael Jordan at #3, after Portland, picking for position, went for a big man, Sam Bowie. That taught Thorn a lesson: "pick the player or players who have a chance to be good, no matter what position." When the Nets pick at #22 and #23, Thorn thinks that New Jersey has a good chance at success, noting that even in the late first round, "one out of six statistically become good NBA players."
