Nets Fight Through Struggles, Beat Raptors in OT

With Lawrence Frank's new substitution pattern, the Nets were able to avoid an early second-quarter collapse Saturday afternoon at the Meadowlands, but they did lose a thirteen-point, second-quarter lead when the Raptors went on a 27-8 run spanning the second and third quarters. They led by as many as 10 midway through the fourth, but the Nets turned up the defensive intensity, fought back and took the lead on a three-point play by Vince Carter with 57 seconds to go. After a Mike James three, Carter tied it with a fadeaway and then Chris Bosh and Carter traded misses to send the game to overtime. Defense was the story in overtime as well, as the Nets forced three straight Toronto turnovers and got two big jumpers from Jacque Vaughn to give them a five-point lead in the final minute. They sealed it with free throws to stop their three-game losing streak. Jason Kidd recorded his fifth triple-double of the season with 14 points, 13 rebounds and 15 assists. Vince Carter led all scorers with 31 points and Richard Jefferson added 30. Nenad Krstic scored 10 points in the first quarter and finished with 18, along with nine rebounds.
