Peter Vecsey lets Nets owner Bruce Ratner give his explanation of what happened in July 2004 when the Nets decided to trade Kenyon Martin rather than give him a "max" contract. Ratner says the decision was his, was economic in nature and was a mistake...at least at the time. But he also says at the end of the day, things worked out very nicely for the Nets. Meanwhile, a Houston columnist says the lesson of the Martin situation is don't overpay.
