Arena Critics, Bummed but Not Beaten, Promise to Carry On

Critics of Bruce Ratner's Atlantic Yards are left with one option after the state approved the $4.2 billion project centered on a new Nets arena: The courts. Opponents had for the past two plus years picketed, paraded and parried with proponents at public meetings. They will now go to court, hoping to get an order to stop condemnations of property and halt the project. While some are confident, others appear resigned to their fate. Meanwhile, editorialists at the city's major newspapers applauded the vote.
