Brooklyn's Borough President, Marty Markowitz, wants Bruce Ratner to "downsize" the mini-city he plans to build around the new Nets arena. Markowitz noted "that doesn’t mean the arena — all that has to stay." But he added that with the environmental impact study underway, now is a good time to think making things "a little less dense". Ratner's spokesman has indicated that the arena could be delayed beyond the 2008-09 season if approvals are delayed. Markowitz has been Ratner's top supporter.
