Nets' owner Bruce Ratner announced Thursday that he has reached an agreement with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority to buy the 8.3 acres he needs to build the Nets' arena and surrounding mini-city in Brooklyn. The MTA voted to approve Ratner's bid last week. Today's action finalizes the deal. Ratner said one of his long-term objectives is "to build a great NBA franchise". A Ratner spokesman said he is "considering" changing the team's name.
