Brooklyn Nets or New York Nets

It's still three years away, but the move to Brooklyn does raise a question in many fans' minds: is it going to be the Brooklyn Nets or the New York Nets? The architectural renderings of the new Brooklyn arena feature a giant glass wall with the word "Brooklyn" spelled out in a script vaguely reminiscent of the Dodgers' 1950's era away uniforms. And of course, the Nets were known as the New York Nets in their ABA days. It appears Bruce Ratner is taking no chances, having registered both "Brooklyn Nets" and "New York Nets" with the US Patent and Trademark Office. In fact, he took the step around the same time he made his deal with the old owners of the team. So come 2008, he will have a choice: he can be "Brooklyn's Team" or he can be "Jim Dolan's Nightmare".
