In an interview on WFAN, Net GM Ed Stefanski says that while the Nets want to sign Shareef Abdur-Rahim, they cannot wait much longer. Without saying the Nets would set a deadline, Stefanski did point out that the Nets have other options. He declined to identify the other players, but described them as "a guy who can spread the floor" or a "stone-cold athlete", obvious code for Donyell Marshall and Stromile Swift. Meanwhile, Abdur-Rahim's reported options may be fewer than believed. Miami's Pat Riley said he is unaware of any planned visit by the free agent power forward.
