The Nets led the Hornets by as many as 19 points in the first half, but New Orleans crawled back into the game, and had several chances to win it, but the Nets barely escaped Wednesday night. The Hornets missed a shot to win the game at the end of regulation, and gave up 3 offensive rebounds at the end of overtime that led to a Jason Kidd 3 point play to take a 2 point lead for the Nets with 2 seconds left. After a timeout, Kidd fouled J.R. Smith as he attempted a 3 pointer, giving Smith the opportunity to win the game at the line. He missed the first two, however, and the Nets came away with the victory. Vince Carter led all scorers with 24 points, but shot just 8 of 25 from the field and missed two big shots down the stretch. Jacque Vaughn started the game off hot, helping the Nets to their early lead with 12 1st quarter points. Nenad Krstic was big in the 2nd half, scoring all 12 of his points after the break.
