Before making a decision for Brian Scalabrine to have surgery on his left knee, the Nets will wait to see if it can heal on its own. Zoran Planinic and Ron Mercer will both practice Friday, and could return in Saturday's game against Detroit. Planinic is more likely to be available against the Pistons.
