Times Adds Editorial Clout to Nets Arena, Ratner Project

The New York Times on Tuesday became the fourth of the city's major dailies to weigh in on the side of Bruce Ratner's plans for a mini-city in Brooklyn, anchored by a new Nets' arena. But the newspaper of record also opined that the project needs to be "pared down" and said that Ratner, rather than the city and state, should be paying for $200+ million in site improvements. The Times said the Nets' 18,000-seat arena is a biggest selling point, favorably comparing it with the Jet's failed plan for a West Side stadium.
