Charles Gargano, head of the Empire State Development Corporation, says he supports an accelerated approval process to get Bruce Ratner's mini-city underway. ESDC approval is critical for Ratner's plan. The Nets' new arena would be the first phase of the $3.5 billion project which includes 17 high rises and 7,500 housing units. Meanwhile, the group that raised $50,000 in a walk-a-thon Sunday has told reporters it will use that money to sue city and state authorities in an attempt to slow the project.
